Unitas wins communications contract with NHS Trust

Unitas Communications has been appointed by the Barts and the London NHS trust to manage a health awareness communications campaign targeting London’s Muslim communities.

Unitas’ remit includes branding and management of a poster campaign and an outreach initiative directed at London’s Muslim community groups and institutions.

Unitas CEO, Muddassar Ahmed said, ‘we are very pleased to be working with the NHS on what, for London’s Muslim communities, is such a significant area of concern.’

Unitas launch official website and publication for the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Arab League

Unitas Communications, in its position as secretariat for the All Parties Parliamentary Group on the Arab League (APPGAL), have launched the group’s official website. Unitas has also published the first of the APPGAL’s regular quarterly reports on the Group’s activities and prospects.

Unitas CEO spoke at the 3rd forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

President Lula da Silva of Brazil, President Evo Morales of Bolivia, Prime Minister Erdogan of Turkey, President Kirchner of Argentina, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and President Sampaio, High Representative for the UN Alliance of Civilizations were amongst the high profile speakers at the conference.

Unitas CEO spoke on the subject of ’shaping perceptions, challenging stereo types - the role of the media today’. The session was chaired by Chairman and CEO of EuroNews Mr Philipe Cayla and other panelists included prominent journalists from Singapore, Egypt and The USA along with academics from the UK, Qatar and Brazil.

The Rio Forum bought together over 2,000 participants, including political and corporate leaders, civil society activists, youth groups, faith communities, research centers, foundations and journalists.

Unitas secures Brown, Cameron, and Clegg for TV documentary

Unitas successfully secured interviews with the Prime Minister and the Leaders of the two main UK opposition political parties for a documentary that has been produced by Unitas Communications and The Islam Channel highlighting the need for Muslim communities to engage in the UK General Elections.

Filmed at No.10 Downing Street, Conservative Party HQ and various locations in Westminster, the documentary provides a crucial opportunity for the leaders to speak to the Muslim community and raise awareness about the UK political process ahead of the 2010 UK General Election. All three were enthusiastic about the expected impact of the video, which is set to air within the week.

Unitas provided event management support for a Foreign and Commonwealth Office hosted event at the Foreign Secretary’s residence, 1 Carlton Gardens, for the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia on March 10^th.

The event was attended by senior civil servants, FCO representatives and members of the Somali Diaspora. The event’s keynote address was delivered by the Somali President, Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.

Financial Secretary to the Treasury visits the Unitas Communications team

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury and Minister for Digital Britain, Stephen Timms MP visited the Unitas team on the 29^th January 2010.

As Labour Party Vice Chair for faith groups, Stephen Timms MP expressed a long standing interest in understanding the trends and challenges facing the UK and European Muslim communities.

Also present were Unitas Chairman Stephen O’Brien CBE and Director for International Liaison Joseph Connolly. Unitas CEO Muddassar Ahmed said ‘It is deeply encouraging to find policy makers like Stephen Timms interested in issues around BAME and Muslim community integration and social inclusion that Unitas are engaged in.’

Unitas appoint Reputational Risk specialist, Arif Zaman as Unitas Associate

Unitas have appointed Arif Zaman as its most recent Associate. Arif compliments Unitas’ existing Associates with a strong experience in reputation management. He is currently a Principal Consultant in the Reputational Risk Practice at the Reputation Institute and an advisor to the Commonwealth Business Council on Corporate Governance. Arif was previously Global Market and Industry Analyst at British Airways. Arif’s work has also included taking up numerous positions within organizations interfacing with UK Muslim communities, including being a founder Steering group member of HRH The Prince of Wales Mosaic initiative, a member of the Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry’s Committee on CSR and a Vice Chair of the Muslim Council of Britain Business and Economics Committee.

Unitas Communications organise the pre-launch reception for the All Parties Parliamentary Group of the Arab League (APPGAL)

Unitas Communications successfully organised the prestigious pre-launch reception for the All Parties Parliamentary Group on the Arab League (APPGAL), bringing together a list of highly distinguished guests including prominent dignitaries, esteemed Ambassadors and MPs and Peers from all three major political parties.

The reception was hosted by the Conservative Shadow Minister, Baroness Morris of Bolton and included speeches from the Secretary General of the Arab League, HE Mr Amre Moussa, and the Head of the Arab League Office in London, HE Dr Adel Babesail.

The APPGAL is being created to strengthen relations between the Arab League and the UK Houses of Parliament, and signifies a new phase in the Arab League’s engagement with Britain’s political mainstream.

Unitas Communications work alongside the Arab League to help coordinate and promote common positions on issues of mutual interest and develop long term channels of communication to serve that purpose.
