Background
The League of Arab States is a regional organisation with twenty two member states. The Arab League British Mission approached Unitas Communications for support in developing long term channels of communication between the Transitional Arab Parliament with the UK Houses of Parliament.
Campaign Objectives
- Strengthening links between the Transitional Arab Parliament and the UK Houses of Parliament
- Enhancing economic cooperation between the League of Arab States and the UK
Steps taken
- Provision of support in creating a new All Parties Parliamentary body (APPGAL) designed to enhance communication between the League of Arab states and the UK Parliament.
- Promotion of APPGAL’s objectives amongst stakeholder organisations and individuals
- Management of high profile events on behalf of the League of Arab States
- Management of prestigious launch event for APPGAL
- Management of the 2009 League of Arab States reception
Results
- Unitas Communications successfully created the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Arab League, for which Baroness Morris of Bolton (Chair, Conservative Middle East Council) was elected Chair. There are also 19 other cross-party MPs and Peers that have lent their support to the APPGAL.
- APPGAL was launched at the House of Lords with an event attended by 21 Parliamentary delegates.
- Unitas Communications also successfully organised The League of Arab States; 2009 Labour Party fringe event that included securing Labour Party ministerial level attendance. Unitas secured the attendance of 26 parliamentarians and various corporate, academic and ambassadorial delegates for the 2009 Arab League Day. APPGAL was also successfully launched at the House of Lords, to which 21 parliamentary delegates attended.
